Digital Noir started out as Scrimshaw Communications – a website and photography business which Sam pioneered in London, UK. After growing a healthy client base throughout the UK and Europe, Sam decided it was time to stop kidding himself that 20 degrees was “summer” and left the streets of South’ London. In 2011, Adelaide said its first hello to Digital Noir.
Once back on home soil, Sam quickly outgrew his small office in Glenelg and moved to a large industrial space in Edwardstown. It had all the important things. A table tennis table. A coffee machine. A whiteboard. Between furious rallies, our fast-growing team got really good – and not just at table tennis. We moved from web, print and photography into the exciting world of mobile apps. Last year, we hit a new milestone, extending our borders into Thailand and Indonesia when we set up the Pixel Pong development team.
In Cinemas Now
We’re now a long way from the boss freezing his butt off in a tiny London flat. Digital Noir is now made up of young but well-seasoned experts with a passion for creating world-class web and app experiences. We love hearing positive feedback from our clients and we get most of our business from word of mouth, so our work speaks for itself – literally.
Our talent ranges from small business websites and logos, through to the re-development of multi-national web back ends and database systems. Having developed apps for the dreamers (start-ups), the 9-5ers (corporates) and everyone in between, you can take confidence that we know apps. We like to think of the digital world is our oyster and we’re quite partial to shellfish (and a good Bloody Mary or two!!)
We’re steadily focussed on transforming Digital Noir into the best web and app development team in Australia, but also the most unique and fun to work with. (Yes, we win our clients over with our personality and humour).
We thrive on partnering with individuals and companies who share our same zest for life and work, and accept only the best. We want you to enjoy the creative journey that we move through as we build your website or app. And we’ll continue to push the boundaries of what is possible both creatively and technologically.
2015 has seen more changes for us. We’ve moved into our new home in Somerton Park – because we know the happiest people live by the beach and we love being happy. If this wasn’t enough, we’ve got a kick-starter campaign on the way and some in-house apps which we’re dying to share with the world. And if Tess gets her way, we’ll be knocking out the stairs to make room for the slippery dip.
Come and be a part of this amazing journey!

Sam and the guys at Digital Noir were a dream to work with. They found ways to bring my app to life that no-one else could. They know their stuff and provide extra support where needed. Totally recommend them.
