You’ve got a website and you’re doing all the right things. Your website is beautiful and easy to use. Where are the 1000’s of visitors you hoped for?

“Making it” online is a tough slog. Type into Google “how to promote my website” and you’ll be hit with a bunch of top ten lists on how you can make $10,000 in one month. It’s just not realistic. Well, at least not for some time.

So, we’re going to run you through a few of our strategies to get more visitors to your website. No fluff. No hype. No deceiving methods… just real-world tactics that everyone can implement.

Let me start by saying the online world is like a kid, pulling at your leg. It just wants your attention. So, if you want people to pay attention to just you, you’ve gotta earn it. This is the part most people forget. Just like Rhianna says, you’ve gotta “work, work, work, work, work.”

You need to accept that marketing is part of your job, just as much as the actual service or product you’re selling. As soon as you start applying real creativity to your marketing, you’ll see real, tangible results.

Here are four ways to attract visitors to your website.

Blog, like you’ve never blogged before

Don’t bother having a blog if you’re only going to write when you’ve got a new client or an event you’re attending. I’m talking about the kind of blog that grabs people’s attention by providing valuable and meaningful content – consistently. Avoid making your blog all about you. Remember the good old saying: “What’s in it for me?” Always have this in mind when writing a new post.

Here are some blogging tips:

  • Have a theme and make the entire post about that, and only that
  • Work it from a compelling headline
  • Give examples to back what you’re saying
  • Invite comments by ending with a question.

Give (some of) your best work away… for free

Leverage one of the biggest advantages of digital content: a worldwide audience. Tap into an endless supply of people by giving something valuable away for free. Encourage people to share it with their contacts, to reach a wider audience. Internet marketers suggest content such as a free report or e-Book, a design template, a video series, and book chapters. Just make sure what you’re offering is super useful and the work will speak for itself.

Get in front of someone else’s audience

Guest posting is one of the most effective ways to grow your website traffic. Make a list of the key influencers in your industry and reach out to them. Writing high-quality articles for popular blogs in your niche will get you seen. Add a great offer into the article and you could land yourself literally hundreds (even thousands) of new visitors to your website.

Get your content moving!

There’s not much use in writing a great article, placing it on your website and waiting for people to see it. That’s like throwing a party without inviting anyone to it. And no one wants to be that person.

You’ve got to get your content out there. One of the best methods for this is through social networking sites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. But again, don’t just use your accounts as “look at me” promotions. Be generous and share other people’s content. This way, you’ll position yourself as a go-to authority in your industry.
