Strathalbyn Dental Care has been within the heart of Strathalbyn for over 40 years. They are a big part of their local community, sponsoring the local footy team and more.

Utilising Design Thinking, we tackled the project. Design Thinking is an iterative process in which we seek to understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be immediately obvious.

Competitive analysis

Looking at other dental practices across the web, it clear something was off. The dental practice industry was in somewhat of a giant bubble. Every practice website has essentially the same colour scheme, mostly blue and green. They all heavily featured close up visuals of dental tools and mouths.

People hate going to the dentist. People fear needles and drills. It’s not pleasant to look into someone’s mouth. So why do dental practice websites always seem to feature close ups of mouths, drills and dental tools. We’re not quite sure but it’s vital that we avoid these pain points.

We must empathise with the customers.

With Strath, we wanted to approach the message and the design from a warm and family/community driven feeling. People want to be reassured, and if anything, not think about the actual dental work. Strath are here to support the community, it’s not just about the dental services. It’s about helping people.

To avoid those pain points we mentioned earlier, we stayed away from any typical, clinical dental images.

A user will meet warmth and simplicity. A reassurance that the strath dental experience is like ‘eating a hot pie at the footy’, no surprises.
