That is the question you are asking of every visitor who comes to your site… I will often ask potential clients –Who are you trying to change with your site? And am often greeted with a blank stare… People want a website, or a mobile app or a new car but often they are not entirely sure why!
As someone who manages website builds for a living I am often aghast when met with that blank stare .. Ahh but when the shoe is on the other foot.
Going through the process of getting this site live has been slow to say the least. I am anal. I want my site to be as amazing as humanly possible. I am also busy with client work 10 hours a day as are the rest of the team, so inevitably when the topic of ‘our site’ comes up we push it to the side. This is a luxury I suppose, that we keep getting work without having had a major web presence for quite some time now (eeep). I am trying to think of a good analogy for a web developer without a website, but I can’t right now (feel free to give me one). Perhaps an SEO firm with poor rankings??!!
Where was I? Oh yeah putting client work ahead of my own and looking down on them for not knowing what they want. Well I apologise. I feel your pain. Creating a website is not as easy as some people may think and it sure as hell is not just about pretty pictures and a few links. Forging a cohesive image of your brand on several pages with text and graphics is a tough gig and one that forces you to look at your self with a clinical eye, which often yields frightening results!.
It is also highly rewarding, I have a clearer idea of where I want Digital Noir to head from re-designing this thing, and also more empathy for the client when I am sitting in their office asking them, Why Am I Here?
I am looking forward to seeing this space grow!
